Our primary goal is to save your natural teeth whenever possible.

Our practice specializes in endodontics, commonly referred to as root canal therapy. Endodontics is the treatment of the pulp and surrounding tissues of a tooth. When root canal therapy is performed, the pulp of the tooth is removed, disinfected, filled with an obturation material and sealed. Root canals are most often necessary when decay has reached the nerve of the tooth or the tooth has become infected.

Root Canal Therapy

An endodontist uses specialized and advanced technology to treat tooth pain and perform root canal treatment. Root canals are most often necessary when decay has reached the nerve of the tooth or the tooth has become infected. People have anywhere from one to four canals in a tooth. Extra canals may branch out and are called “accessory canals.” The number of canals and anatomy of a tooth can vary.

When a tooth is infected or at risk of infection, root canal therapy can often save the tooth. The procedure involves removing the dental pulp and replacing it with a filler material that preserves the tooth and prevents infection. Root canal therapy can be done proactively to prevent infection or retroactively to treat a tooth infection.

GentleWave Procedure:
A Different Approach to Root Canal Therapy

The GentleWave® Procedure takes a different approach to root canal therapy, using a minimally invasive protocol designed to help preserve optimal tooth structure and promote the long-term sustainability of the tooth.

Comfortable
Many patients — especially those who have previously undergone standard root canal treatment — describe the GentleWave Procedure as comfortable.

Convenient
Standard root canal treatment often involves multiple visits to your dentist or endodontist. The GentleWave Procedure can usually be completed in just one visit.

Clean
The GentleWave Technology combines energy with optimized disinfecting fluids to flush away debris and tissue from your tooth’s root canal system.

Other Endodontic Procedures

  • Endodontic Retreatment. After a root canal procedure has been performed on a tooth, a tooth may still become reinfected if the root canal was not complete. This calls for endodontic retreatment, which is essentially a repeat root canal. We use an endodontic microscope to ensure that we remove all of the dental pulp and completely fill every space within the root canal to prevent the need for retreatment.
  • Apicoectomy. When underdeveloped or damaged root tissue allows bacteria to enter the root canal it can result in an infection. An apicoectomy removes the tip of the tooth root, cleans out the infected tissue, and places a cap on the end of the root to seal it off from further infection.
  • Traumatic Injuries. An injury to the mouth can knock a tooth loose or out of place. It can also cause internal problems with a tooth that are unable to be seen right away. Prompt treatment after an injury improves the chances of saving the tooth.
  • Root Resorption. Tooth root resorption is when the tissue of a tooth's root starts breaking down and resorbing, often due to injury or disease. This can lead to tooth instability or loss if not treated.
  • Pediatric Endodontics. Kids’ teeth can become infected and require treatment just like adults’ teeth. We can see children of all ages in our child-friendly office and offer sedation to ensure your child feels safe and comfortable during their treatment.
  • Pulpotomy. A pulpotomy is an endodontic procedure that is most often performed on deciduous (baby) teeth. This treatment is needed when deep tooth decay reaches the pulp inside of a tooth, causing an infection called pulpitis.
  • Internal Teeth Bleaching. Endodontic internal bleaching is used to whiten teeth from the inside out, typically after a root canal treatment. This method is advantageous for treating a single discolored tooth as it targets the discoloration from the inside, which external whitening methods can't reach.
